｢NEXT HOOP｣
The bright Wednesday morning Sun shone through the glass window that was built around the wall of the indoor basketball hall. Soft thumping could be heard coming from inside the hall.
Anne, a year 3 student in a 4 years of education school was found inside the basketball hall with her light brown hair tied back into a neat ponytail, her soft bluish-gray pupils focused on the rim. She bounced the ball once and brought up her hands, with a deep breath, she flicked her wrist and the ball went through the net. Claps echoed through the hall. Anne turned and saw a girl with shoulder length black hair and Anne broke into a smile. Smiling, Anne approached her, the ball clamed between her palms. The black hair girl immediately smacked the ball from Anne’s hand and dribbled to the board and did a lay up.
“Damn you Biella!” Anne growled as she saw the ball plop into the net.
“And I love you too Anne.” Biella giggled. Anne sighed and gave her a warm smile.
“Come on love, lets go.” Biella said as she adjusted her skirt. Anne nodded and ran to grab her school bag and together they exited the basketball hall. While walking down the pathway that led to the classroom block, the plum blossom trees that were planted at the side of the pathways were already in full bloom and soft purple petals danced down the sky and rested on the path ways. Looking up to the sky blue sky, Anne smiled.
“Spring has arrived.”
Chapter 1: 3v3
“Okay! Gather please!” The basketballers when heard the command all stopped what they were doing and gathered at the side of the basketball court where they sat in a semi circle. In front of the semi circle stood a beautiful girl with dyed copper red hair tied back into a bun. Beside her stood a tall middle aged man.
“Team, meet our new coach, Coach Ng.” She introduced. The team stared at the coach but remained silent. The girl standing beside the coach shot them a death glare. Reluctantly, the team greeted the coach.
“Coach Ng, we are under your care now, please take good care of us.” The girl said as she stretched forth her hand.
“Same goes for me Claudette.” The coach replied as he accepted the handshake. Breaking away, Claudette looked at the team and smiled.
“Its great to see the new batch of basketballers.” Claudette smiled.
“Okay, all year one, please form a line opposite us.” Claudette told them. Immediately about 6 rushed forward to form another row. With a brief instruction, Claudette pointed at one of the year one.
“Ahh! My name is Denise, height 165cm, reason for joining, to play more of my favourite sport.” Denise, a lass with strawberry blonde hair and a pair of light blue eyes, stuttered nervously. When Denise finished her introduction, the person beside her immediately spoke up.
“My name is Yuki, height 155cm. Don’t really have a reason for joining.” Yuki a lass with light blonde hair and hazel brown pupils recited.
“My name is Evangeline, height 162cm, reason for joining is because I love basketball. That’s why I decided to join.” Eva smiled showing her pearly white teeth.
“June, 159cm tall and I join basketball because… I don’t know.” Justina shrugged.
“The name is Fione, height 161cm, reason for joining, nil.” Fione yawned as she folded her arms across her chest. Glaring at her, Claudette pointed to the last one in line.
“My name is Germaine, and my reason for joining basketball is cause I want to make Dominium High the best basket ball team in the whole state.” Germaine said meekly. Claudette stared at Germaine as though she was shocked by Germaine’s statement. Anne poked her to wake her up from her daze. Entering back into reality, Claudette scanned through the line and pointed at Denise, Evangeline and Fione and signaled them to step forward. Claudette looked at Biella and told her to get the bibs. Biella nodded and rushed off.
“Denise, Evangeline and Fione, you girls will be one team named team 1. Yuki, June and Germaine, you three are another called team, 2. It will be a 3v3 match, with only one quarter that will last for 30mins.” After briefly explaining the rules, Claudette led them to one half of the court and held the ball.
“Well then, the first quarter of Team 1 vs Team 2 – 3v3 – begins now!” Claudette informed as she threw the ball up. Immediately, Denise jumped up but Germaine remained on the ground
